Exact Match Mode (EMM) setting not remembered after reboot of Outlook

description

If you select Exact Match Mode (EMM) in OAR's settings, after a reboot of Outlook this gets forgotten - and you're forced to set it once again (i.e. at EVERY startup of Outlook). I need to use EMM mode because the disclaimer text of my email footer contains the words "or any email attachments" (not the plural 'S' on the end of 'attachments'). If (as makes sense) one of the trigger words for OAR is 'attachment' (singlular) then a false-positive trigger happens from OAR on EVERY email I send - unless I put OAR into EMM mode. It is therefore very irritating to have to reset OAR into EMM mode every time I restart Microsoft Outlook!!

We will be starting Full time development on this in couple of months from now. So all fixes are postponed till then. Request for your patience.

If I've understood your update correctly, you're saying that if I download the latest version of OAR (1.0RC Update 1, which you uploaded yesterday) then this fixes the above problem. However, if I do this it does not fix the problem - the choice between PMM and EMM mode is still not remembered if I close Outlook 2010 and then relaunch it.

Perhaps this is a specific issue with the 2010 version of Microsoft Outlook?

Hello Mr. Allan, sorry for the stupid sounding question, but please could you confirm if you did click on "Save Settings" after making the change. If you are clicking on the "Save settings" and that does not help, could you please let me know if
1) You get the notification from notification about "Settings saved successfully".
2) Under ..My Documents/OARsFiles folder, the OARWordList1000RC.txt is present.
3) In the OARWordList1000RC.txt if any of the following is present after you click "Save Settings" - OPTMATCHMODE:-:EMM or OPTMATCHMODE:-:PMM.

Please let me know this to allow to fix the issue. BTW I just tested on my office machine and things looked fine so far. Waiting for your response to proceed further.

User reported issue still proceeds.

How stupid am I?! I got so used to there not being a 'Save Settings' button in the old version (and having to just click the red 'x' button in the options window instead) I didn't notice this new button in the latest version of your software. As you state, using this (new) 'Save settings' button does indeed solve the problem - and sorry for not paying proper attention! (problem solved!).

However, in my defence (!) you might want to consider treating the red 'x' as being the same as 'Save settings' (as was previously the case) - or prompt 'Do you want to save your settings?' when this red 'x' button is clicked instead.

Hello Allan, glad that the issue stands resolved, though its absolutely not "stupid" in any imaginable way to forget to "save settings", more importantly because of the change in behavior from older versions. I would still stick to this explicit save feature but definitely try to notify users to save settings when they change any setting.
